Week 1 of training for the European Bjj competition

So here i was in the office at my academy debating with my team weather or not i should compete in the IBJJF which will be held in Lisbon Portugal in late January 2010. the answer was very simple, why not.

So having set my goal, chose my training partners , strength and conditioning coaches and began training with these things in mind.

Dieting

Cutting Weight While Maintaining Performance

Correct Training Cycles

Rest / active rest

All of these things i have been through with members of my mma team now its my turn.

I have decided that i will work in micro cycles which will be 3 days training one day rest and will incorporate

Strength and conditioning

Cardio vascular

Endurance

flexibility

plyometric's

light sparring v heavy sparring

&

Specific Drills

The past week has been very tough it started with reviewing my diet i now eat every 3hrs (small amounts) mainly chicken breast vegetables , salad etc. low carbs and i drink 2l of water per day which will slowly increase as time continues.

my workout has increased and i am now using cardio machines and weights to assist me in reaching my desired weight.

i am looking forward to the forthcoming weeks as it allows me to challenge myself both physically and mentally i will blog my journey and see if i can reach my ultimate goal , to fight at the Europeans and place in the top 3 .........

All of this along with running the academy , and teaching/maintaining my team !

EKBJJ FUNDAMENTAL CLASSES

Starting Monday 30TH November 2009 EKBJJ is proud to announce the launch of its Fundamental classes .

These Classes apply to all new students who attend or join EKBJJ .

New students will have to attend these fundamental Lessons which will focus on basic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu theory and technique.

Fundamental classes run every week and start @ 06:45pm (Monday and Fridays only).

CONGRATULATIONS TO ABSOLUTO ROMANIA.

EKBJJ team members ABSOLUTO competed this past weekend in the Hungarian open BJJ tournament. Led by Absoluto head coach Tudor, the team won an amazing 6 medals and came 3rd in the team score.

EK BJJ FEMALE FIGHTER WINS GOLD (AGAIN)

EKBJJ Female fighter and Rising star Camila Hanson competed this past weekend in the Kent Open BJJ tournament in the purple belt division.

She fought twice winning both fights with submission.

Camila has been part of the EKBJJ family since white belt, she is an awesome competitor and great sparring partner she recieved her purple belt this year from Head instructor Eddie Kone.

EDDIE KONE WORKSHOP 28TH NOVEMBER 2009

WELL DONE EKBJJ

This past weekend saw Team EKBJJ win a total of 9 gold medals in two different tournaments.

Eddie Kone and team were in Romania for the Romanian cup where Viking Wong won his division 3 fights all by submission earning him the gold medal and most technical fighter award.

Absoluto won an amazing six gold medals in the Romanian Cup in different divisions.

In the UK , EKBJJ fighters James O'keefe won the gold medal in his division as did EKBJJ female fighter Camilla Hansen who also won gold in the British open no gi competition in Wolverhampton.

Well done Guy's Great effort.

Also thanks to team Absoluto for a great weekend Especially Radu and Gabi who got up at 7am in the freezing cold to make the photo shoot happen thanks and hope to see you all soon.

EDDIE KONE AND TEAM HEAD TO ROMANIA

Head coach of the EK BJJ Association head's out to Romania this weekend with a team to assist family members Absoluto BJJ in the Annual Romanian Cup BJJ Competition.

Assisting Eddie will be Purple belt Shukie Lok, also competing from EKBJJ London will be Viking Wong.

BLOODLINE FIGHT TEAM WIN TITLE AT ULTIMATE CHALLENGE.

on Saturday 24th October 2009 Bloodline fighters fought at Ultimate Challenge (Dynamite).

Brad Wheeler fought for the UCK1 Title and beat his opponent to become the youngest UCK1 Champion, Brad had been training extremely hard for this fight alongside Ultimate Fitness Centre Head Thai boxing coach Dave Nobel.

Also on the bill was Ultimate Fitness Centre head Thai Boxing coach Dave Nobel .

This was Dave's pro MMA debut.

Dave weighed in at 97kg with his opponent who was 4 wins and 0 losses (Wayne Weaver) weighed in at 110 kg.

Dave completely dominated the first round not only with striking but with take downs and take down defence, at one point during the fight Weaver attempted a double leg take down which Dave countered landing in cross body and hammering Weaver almost into submission.

with 10 seconds to go in the first round Dave took an accidental thumb in the eye causing the ref to not allow Dave to continue for the second round.

We are looking forward to a rematch with Weaver in the near future.

BLOODLINE FIGHTER'S AT ULTIMATE CHALLANGE 24TH

This coming weekend Bloodline fight team enter the cage again.

The very young and talented Brad Wheeler will be fighting for the UCK1 tittle as he take's on jon joe ellis in the light weight division.

And the very tough Dave Noble will be making his MMA debut in the heavyweight division against Wayne Weaver.

NEW CLASSES AT ULTIMATE FITNESS CENTRE.

From Tuesday 20Th October 2009 Ultimate fitness centre is hosting 2 more weekly classes for its fighters.

Dynamic Stretching / Agility and Reaction Training.

These classes take a scientific approach to increasing fighters flexibility and reaction in both MMA and BJJ.

Classes will be taught by Paul Fellows (Renegade Strength) One of the ultimate fitness centre's strength and conditioning coaches.

This class is not to be missed..

Classes will be held Tuesday and Thursday from 8pm till 915pm.

EKBJJ WIN BIG AT GROUND CONTROL MANCHESTER

Big Congratulations to the team of

EK BJJ London and EKBJJ North who competed jointly at Ground Control Manchester the weekend.

Camilla Hanson (EKBJJ London ) fought first, she fought in an open weight, open skills category and won all four matches, two by submission and two by points, So she won gold.

Next up was Viking Wong (EKBJJ London) he fought in the -80kg beginners division, he won his first four fights by submissions (two head/arm triangles, two triangles) and he won the final against a very respectful opponent by points (21 - 0)

Also in this division was Lloyd Cooper of (EKBJJ North), won his first fight by armbar, in his second, he took an accidental knee and in confusion tapped out.

Jonathan Keeley , (EKBJJ NORTH), was bumped up to +99KG ADVANCED rather than intermediate division, fighting against opponents with over 10 years of grappling experience, He won the first two fights by submissions, in the second fight, he landed awkwardly and completed the stunning transitions and finish whilst dazed, unfortunately, the injury meant he had to forfeit the final and so won Silver in his category.

Lastly the -80KG intermediate/advance division , Saw Costas Doru ( EKBJJ London/ KO) and Charlie Farley (EKBJJ NORTH) were matched up for the first fight, even with the backing of other fighters and spectators requested a change, but they were the last of the first round fights so no change was possible, they two decided to fight, Cos won on points, leaving Charlie to defeat his next opponent by submission to achieve equal fourth place.

Cos went on to fight and win two more fights by points, in the final he faced the incredible hulk, who played the game well and defeated Cos into silver medal.

So in all, in a rather last minute decision to compete, six EKBJJ representatives, in four divisions, brought home 2 Golds and 2 silvers. With classy opponents in classy fights at a well organised event , a great day was had by all.

Awesome achievement Guys well done from all at EKBJJ .

EK RETURNS AFTER AWESOME SEMINAR.

Eddie Kone returned from his visit to EKBJJ NORTH today where over the past 2 days he has been conducting seminars for the association.

Eddie was impressed with standard of the team and is very happy with the progress of the newly formed academy.

Eddie said "The team has grown very nicely over the past few months in both the UK and Europe i am very very pleased with our association and the direction in which we are heading, i am looking forward to next year" .

Well done to those who recived stripes on there belts including long time freind and reporter Carl Fisher who recieved 3 stripes on his purple belt.

Eddie wishes to thank all of the guys who attended the seminar and will be back up north in a few months.

Happy 5TH Birthday to our Romanian family ABSOLUTO BJJ .

Over the past few years i have had the pleasure of assisting Head coach Tudor Mihata in Romania , helping develop and grow our sport of BJJ. I have become fond of both Romania and especialy the guys who make up the team of Absoluto . I do not consider the team there to be freinds they are my extended family and Tudor has become one of my closest Friends, He is an awesome coach and one of the most genuine people i have met .

I recommend anyone visiting Romania to visit the academy and train alongside the team.

Well done guys, from all the EK BJJ academy's we wish you happy birthday and hope for more fun times ahead see you guys very soon.
