Friday the 14Th may saw EKBJJ Associations first brown belt promotion which happened completely by surprise in Romania.
Congratulations to long our time Friend and student Tudor Mahita who is the head coach in Romania of Absoluto bjj.
Tudor has trained for many years and is an active competitor within BJJ, he was also responsible for the growth of BJJ in Romania and now has started a programme which is continuing to grow within Romania called "Start".

Eddie Kone was very proud to promote Tudor to the rank of Brown belt and everyone at the ELBJJ Association would like to congratulate Tudor on this huge achievement, this not only makes Tudor EKBJJ first brown belt but also Romania's first BJJ Brown belt.

ROYCE GRACIE SEMINAR AT EKBJJ FRIDAY MAY 28TH 2010

Royce Gracie is the sixth son of Grand Master Helio Gracie. He received his blue belt at age 16 and was promoted to black belt in less than two years. Royce moved to the United States at age 18 to live with his brother, Rorion, and quickly adapted to the schedule of teaching private classes out of their garage, sometimes for more than ten hours a day. In 1989, Rorion, Royce, Rickson, and Royler established the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Torrance, California.

In 1993, Rorion created the Ultimate Fighting Championship® and selected Royce to represent the family. At 6’1” and only 178 lbs., he was the smallest fighter in the tournament. However, Royce shocked the world by defeating three opponents in the same night to become the first ever UFC champion. His victory proved, once and for all, that leverage and technique can overcome size and strength.

Always outweighed by his opponents, Royce went on to win three UFC titles. Until today, he is the only man in the no-holds-barred fighting world to have successfully defeated four opponents in one night.

His largest opponent to date was Sumo Grand Champion Akebono at 6'8" tall and weighing 486lbs. In the main event of the K-1 Premium Dynamite New Years Eve show on December 31, 2008, Royce defeated the giant in 2 minutes and 13 seconds with a shoulder lock. Royce's success opened the eyes of the few remaining disbelievers to the effectiveness of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu against larger opponents. In November 2003, Royce Gracie was the first fighter to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

MMA MONSTER DOKTOR RETURNS TO BLOODLINE AND MMA

Bloodline fight team welcome the (DOKTOR) back to the team .
Doktor had to return to his native home in Poland for a while but is now back in training and will be competing again very soon on June 19th 2010 at Ultimate Challenge.

Legend Royce Gracie Will be teaching a seminar at the EKBJJ HQ in London on May 28Th 2010 from 730pm.
The cost of the seminar will be £40 and is not to be missed.
Royce Gracie is a professional mixed martial arts fighter, a UFC Hall of Famer and son of the legendary grand master Helio Gracie. He holds the most submission victories in UFC history with 11, which he earned between UFC 1 and UFC 4.
He became famous for beating opponents much larger than him, and between 1993 and 1994, he was the tournament winner of UFC 1, UFC 2, UFC 4, and fought to a draw with Ken Shamrock in the championship match in the Super fight at UFC 5.
Royce Gracie popularized Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and revolutionized mixed martial arts with his results contributing to the movement towards grappling and cross-training in the sport.

The seminar was 3 hrs long and was focused on americana's and counters.

Just returned from seeing a personal Friend of mine, the Beautiful & wonderful miss Beverley knight in concert at the Royal Albert Hall and i must say she was (100 percent) amazing.
from the time she came onto the stage until the time she left the sell out crowd was on their feet.
Bev's vocal ability blew me away as she easily hit every note with ease, to be honest she sounds much better live then on CD.
I was invited and given access to all areas by my business partner Jame's who is Beverley's partner, and Beverley herself.
Thanks guy's for making this an unforgettable evening.

Bloodline feather weight fighter John kelly fought this weekend at ultimate challenge london and put on an impressive fight against a very gae fighter.
John was caught early in the stand up exchanges but turned the fight around unleashing some devastating ground and pound to win the fight in 2 mins of the first round.

Also on the card was Stregnth and conditiong coach James O'keefe who was due to fight on the night as well, James oppnent pulled out due to a dislocated thumb which happend during the warm up back stage.

BLOODLINE FIGHT TEAM WIN BIG AT ULTIMATE CHALLENGE

BLOOD LINE FIGHTER'S Brad Wheeler and Dave Noble both won there fights last night at Ultimate Challenge in front of a sellout show.
Brad was the first fighter out of the camp and faced an opponent Dominic Plumb who was coming off of 2 wins, Both fighters came out and after a quick exchange Plumb initiated the take down landing inside wheelers guard , wheeler caught plumb in a very painful belldown armbar which forced plumb to tap after 31 seconds of round one.

Second fighter out the camp was Dave Nobel,
Dave was fighting the bigger more experienced fighter Rafik Benzaide after some heavey exchanges early in round one nobel weathered the storm and began to gain the upper hand avoiding Rafiks take down attempts.
The second and third rounds saw Rafik being walked down by nobel and being beaten of the punch every time, Noble won by judges decision after 3 rounds.

EK RETURNS FROM SEMINARS

For the past 2 weeks Eddie Kone has been visiting the EKBJJ Association and Family academey's teaching focus groups, competition training, MMA training and stratergies for those competing in the upcoming European BJJ tournament which will be held in Lisbon Portugal this comming weekend.
Eddie's first visit was to EKBJJ North which has 2 academies one in sheffield and one in rotherham, Eddie arrived on saturday and spent the evening updating and assisting the coaches only, on concepts theory and technique also sparring and making sure all was going well at the academey.
sunday was the main seminar .
Apart from team EKBJJ north Carl Fisher A.K.A the fighting photographer and crew came up to support from manchester and it was a great session with the focus being on the mounted postion with Eddie showing attacks, defences recovery and mainting the position some of the students were awarded stripes on there belt and Eddie was impressed with the level of jiu jitsu.
The following weekend Eddie flew out to Romania to visit and share concepts with team members Absoluto BJJ.
Eddie arrived on friday to no luggage , his luggage had been lost in transit including his GI and black belt and on top of that the snow in romania was half a metre deep and tempreture was minus 12.
Eddie attended the Absoluto academy and as usual was met with a warm welcome , students were split into 2 groups and the focus was on passing the open guard for the senior belts and defending the mounted position for the white belts.
At the end of the seminar George Stanciu assistant coach at Absoluto was awarded the purple belt.
Saturday Eddie and head coach of Absoluto Tudor headed down to Romanian K1 superstar's Ciprian Sorra Fight Academey to exchange some MMA Concepts and ideas with ABSOLUTO MMA TEAM.
In attendance was Pride and Cage Rage fighter Alexander (the giant) Lungu, K1 Fighter Ciprian Sorra and head coach Rorian.
After this was competition training and sparring with Absoluto bjj competition team.
Eddie now returns to the uk for a short break before heading to paris.

COMMON MISTAKES IN THE CLOSED GUARD

Throughout my years in bjj i have always been surprised how many basic mistakes are made when inside the guard of an opponent,

These mistakes all stem from one basic thing (Posture).

As i have made these errors too i recently found a student of mine was having problems from inside the guard which prompted me to write this post as i find this can be an enormous factor through out all the belts in BJJ.

The first and most common mistake is

(Bad posture)

when inside your opponents closed guard one must always keep there back straight head and eyes up and hips forward, place one of your hands on your opponents chest grabbing both lapels and making a fist which is placed onto your opponents chest.

The second hand should be placed on your opponents thigh with your elbow tucked snug to there knee, this creates a stable base and avoids you being off set if your opponent try's to grab your collar or sit up into you and the hand in the chest also prevents you being pulled down .

The second mistake is

(Never place the hands on the ground)

as this opens you up for attacks like the Kimura , Omaplata , and Triangle, you should allways keep your hands on your opponent and connected to your body as much as possible controlling your opponents hip movement is imperative.

The third mistake is (Avoid leaning back)

This will allow you to be swept and takes weight off of your opponent, giving him movement to sit up or set up scissor sweeps to name a few attacks you must keep his hips controlled.

The fourth mistake is to avoid allowing your arm to cross the centre line of your opponents body, as this makes for easy armlocks, having your back taken and being swept.

listen to what your mum used to tell you (keep your hands to yourself) this way you will be able to feel what your opponent is trying to do.

Also avoid placing one arm inside the legs unless you know how to prevent the triangle, the best movement i have found when inside the guard is to move side to side and avoid moving forwards and backwards this is also the same when standing up from the kneeling position and is a great warm up drill.

Above all remember (Good posture ).

We Teamed up with ouano international and found an amazing kimono which is light durable and competition tested by some of the best in the business like

Leo viera , Andre Galvao to name a few.

The new Ouano lightweight jacket is made of 100% cotton. It is lightweight but made of very strong material with a thick lapel. Includes white belt. The collar is padded with EVA foam. The lightweight Gi is 100% cotton (mercerized / sunforized). The mercerized and sunforized process gives a slight gloss to the fabric. Helps minimize shrinkage and also helps to keep the color of the fabric for a long time. Full set includes jacket, pants, belt and comes complete with association patches already sewn on.

EKBJJ PLACE AT ADCC TRIALS.

First off, well done to Cosmin Mirca (Absoluto BJJ) who came from our team in Romania to compete in the trials. Cosmin lost to the winner of the division after putting up an awesome fight in the white belt division.

EKBJJ Fighter Viking Wong also competed in the trials defeating 3 opponents.

Viking was submitted in his last fight which placed him 2ND in the 76kg division.

Congrats to both guys well done.

First off Congratulations to John Kelly who fought an amazing fight saturday night for the final in the light weight tournament at Ultimate Challenge UK, You did yourself and your team proud.

John kelly fought and dominated all three rounds to what us and the rest of the crowd The promoter Dave o,donnel, leon roberts (ufc ref), comentator, and pro mma fighter peirere (the proffessional) guliette, rob nutly, and ian (machine) freeman along with 2000 other people could not believe it, they all spoke to us in disgust about the decision.

I would love to know who was judging and how they judged it because im sure they were watching something else.

No disrespect to simon Gill and the Nova Forca team who were awesome guys and great sportsman congratulation on the win.

I have watched the footage back and can not believe it, this not only puts our sport into the question of (fight fixing / and judges not knowing what they are supposed to be looking for) but also sheds more light that we actualy need a governing body who we could go too in situations like this.

John worked his ass off for the fight and was un marked in 3 rounds, he dominated the stand up escaped all sub,ission attempts and pushed to finish the fight for 15 mins .

when the vid comes out im sure people will see for them selves.

well done to Simion Gill and his team Marcus da silva and Tim radcliff, they are among the nicest guys i have met in the sport.

BLOODLINE FIGHTER MAKES FINAL PREPARATION FOR ULTIMATE CHALLENGE

Bloodline Feather weight fighter John Kelly was adding the final preparation for his upcoming fight this Saturday at the Ultimate Challenge London, Kelly who was due to fight Mark Adams for the tournament tittle is now fighting Simon gill as Adams pulled out due to personal reasons.

Kelly has fought his way through 3 opponents to gain his place in the final defeating Max Henchy , Alex Harvey and Keith Singh.

John has trained extremely hard for this fight and everyone at Bloodline Fight Team EKBJJ and The Ultimate Fitness Centre wish him a safe and victorious fight.

EKBJJ HEAD COACH EDDIE KONE RETURNS FROM SEMINAR.

Eddie Kone and team travelled 3and a half hours on Saturday to visit and teach at one of our new affiliate academy's which is located in Rotherham South Yorkshire.

Arriving Saturday Night Eddie had 2hrs of training with the coaches and was impressed by there level and understanding of Jiu Jitsu.

Sunday was seminar day and around 20 students attended including long time Friend Carl (the fighting photographer ) Fisher.

The seminar was great basic Techniques being taught by Eddie, Everyone really enjoyed themselves and Eddie looks forward to traveling back up soon.

Thanks to all who attended and making this weekend fun.

Week 1 of training for the European Bjj competition

So here i was in the office at my academy debating with my team weather or not i should compete in the IBJJF which will be held in Lisbon Portugal in late January 2010. the answer was very simple, why not.

So having set my goal, chose my training partners , strength and conditioning coaches and began training with these things in mind.

Dieting

Cutting Weight While Maintaining Performance

Correct Training Cycles

Rest / active rest

All of these things i have been through with members of my mma team now its my turn.

I have decided that i will work in micro cycles which will be 3 days training one day rest and will incorporate

Strength and conditioning

Cardio vascular

Endurance

flexibility

plyometric's

light sparring v heavy sparring

Specific Drills

The past week has been very tough it started with reviewing my diet i now eat every 3hrs (small amounts) mainly chicken breast vegetables , salad etc. low carbs and i drink 2l of water per day which will slowly increase as time continues.

my workout has increased and i am now using cardio machines and weights to assist me in reaching my desired weight.

i am looking forward to the forthcoming weeks as it allows me to challenge myself both physically and mentally i will blog my journey and see if i can reach my ultimate goal , to fight at the Europeans and place in the top 3 .........

All of this along with running the academy , and teaching/maintaining my team !

This past weekend saw Team EKBJJ win a total of 9 gold medals in two different tournaments.

Eddie Kone and team were in Romania for the Romanian cup where Viking Wong won his division 3 fights all by submission earning him the gold medal and most technical fighter award.

Absoluto won an amazing six gold medals in the Romanian Cup in different divisions.

In the UK , EKBJJ fighters James O'keefe won the gold medal in his division as did EKBJJ female fighter Camilla Hansen who also won gold in the British open no gi competition in Wolverhampton.

Well done Guy's Great effort.

Also thanks to team Absoluto for a great weekend Especially Radu and Gabi who got up at 7am in the freezing cold to make the photo shoot happen thanks and hope to see you all soon.

BLOODLINE FIGHT TEAM WIN TITLE AT ULTIMATE CHALLENGE.

on Saturday 24th October 2009 Bloodline fighters fought at Ultimate Challenge (Dynamite).

Brad Wheeler fought for the UCK1 Title and beat his opponent to become the youngest UCK1 Champion, Brad had been training extremely hard for this fight alongside Ultimate Fitness Centre Head Thai boxing coach Dave Nobel.

Also on the bill was Ultimate Fitness Centre head Thai Boxing coach Dave Nobel .

This was Dave's pro MMA debut.

Dave weighed in at 97kg with his opponent who was 4 wins and 0 losses (Wayne Weaver) weighed in at 110 kg.

Dave completely dominated the first round not only with striking but with take downs and take down defence, at one point during the fight Weaver attempted a double leg take down which Dave countered landing in cross body and hammering Weaver almost into submission.

with 10 seconds to go in the first round Dave took an accidental thumb in the eye causing the ref to not allow Dave to continue for the second round.

We are looking forward to a rematch with Weaver in the near future.

BLOODLINE FIGHTER'S AT ULTIMATE CHALLANGE 24TH

From Tuesday 20Th October 2009 Ultimate fitness centre is hosting 2 more weekly classes for its fighters.

Dynamic Stretching / Agility and Reaction Training.

These classes take a scientific approach to increasing fighters flexibility and reaction in both MMA and BJJ.

Classes will be taught by Paul Fellows (Renegade Strength) One of the ultimate fitness centre's strength and conditioning coaches.

This class is not to be missed..

EKBJJ WIN BIG AT GROUND CONTROL MANCHESTER

Big Congratulations to the team of

EK BJJ London and EKBJJ North who competed jointly at Ground Control Manchester the weekend.

Camilla Hanson (EKBJJ London ) fought first, she fought in an open weight, open skills category and won all four matches, two by submission and two by points, So she won gold.

Next up was Viking Wong (EKBJJ London) he fought in the -80kg beginners division, he won his first four fights by submissions (two head/arm triangles, two triangles) and he won the final against a very respectful opponent by points (21 - 0)

Also in this division was Lloyd Cooper of (EKBJJ North), won his first fight by armbar, in his second, he took an accidental knee and in confusion tapped out.

Jonathan Keeley , (EKBJJ NORTH), was bumped up to +99KG ADVANCED rather than intermediate division, fighting against opponents with over 10 years of grappling experience, He won the first two fights by submissions, in the second fight, he landed awkwardly and completed the stunning transitions and finish whilst dazed, unfortunately, the injury meant he had to forfeit the final and so won Silver in his category.

Lastly the -80KG intermediate/advance division , Saw Costas Doru ( EKBJJ London/ KO) and Charlie Farley (EKBJJ NORTH) were matched up for the first fight, even with the backing of other fighters and spectators requested a change, but they were the last of the first round fights so no change was possible, they two decided to fight, Cos won on points, leaving Charlie to defeat his next opponent by submission to achieve equal fourth place.

Cos went on to fight and win two more fights by points, in the final he faced the incredible hulk, who played the game well and defeated Cos into silver medal.

So in all, in a rather last minute decision to compete, six EKBJJ representatives, in four divisions, brought home 2 Golds and 2 silvers. With classy opponents in classy fights at a well organised event , a great day was had by all.

Awesome achievement Guys well done from all at EKBJJ .

EK RETURNS AFTER AWESOME SEMINAR.

Eddie Kone returned from his visit to EKBJJ NORTH today where over the past 2 days he has been conducting seminars for the association.

Eddie was impressed with standard of the team and is very happy with the progress of the newly formed academy.

Eddie said "The team has grown very nicely over the past few months in both the UK and Europe i am very very pleased with our association and the direction in which we are heading, i am looking forward to next year" .

Well done to those who recived stripes on there belts including long time freind and reporter Carl Fisher who recieved 3 stripes on his purple belt.

Over the past few years i have had the pleasure of assisting Head coach Tudor Mihata in Romania , helping develop and grow our sport of BJJ. I have become fond of both Romania and especialy the guys who make up the team of Absoluto . I do not consider the team there to be freinds they are my extended family and Tudor has become one of my closest Friends, He is an awesome coach and one of the most genuine people i have met .

I recommend anyone visiting Romania to visit the academy and train alongside the team.

BLOODLINE FIGHTERS WIN AGAIN AT ULTIMATE CHALLENGE

Saturday 19Th Sept 2009

Bloodline fight team fought in the ultimate challenge in east London's troxy. First fighter out of the camp making his debut was Jim O'Keeffe Jim took the fight with 3 weeks notice and completely dominated his opponent finishing in the first round with ref,s stoppage due to ground and pound (TKO) over his opponent.

Second fighter was John Kelly who has fought his way through the feather weight tournament destroying 2 other fighters along the way. Kelly fought the Indian wrestling champion Kieth Singh and won in devastating style with Singh being rear naked choked in round 2, Kelly now advances to the finals which will be held in December.

Both fighters did very well and everyone at Bloodline fight team and Ultimate Fitness Centre are very proud.

Saturday 19th september 2009 Bloodline Fight Team once again enter the cage at the troxy london.

3 fighters will enter the cage and represent there team.

Co owner of the ultimate fitness centre and conditiong coach Jim O'Keefe will be making his mma Debut in the cage he has trained very hard for this fight and is more then ready to win.

Dave Noble will be entering the cage making his debut. Dave is a man of very few words and will let his hands do the talking come saturday.

John Kelly currently 2.o in the cage is hoping to keep his unbeaten record intact as he faces a very game fighter in hopes to advance in the featherweight tournement.

Just returned from the yearly summer camp in romania and yet again it was an amazing trip.

We had fun at the beach, hotel, water park, club etc the guys have improved so much in jiu jitsu im proud of the team at Absoluto.

Saturday 22nd 2009 Ultimate Challenge Troxy london, Bloodline fighters John Kelly and Brad wheeler Again step into the cage and put it on the line.

John Kelly Fought Alex Harvey Stopping him in the 2nd round with a devastating knockout.

Brad Wheeler Fought the very experienced Paul Reed who is one of the coaches at olympian mma the fight went the distance with Reed beating Wheeler by judges decision.

Brad toughed it out for 15 Min's with one of the uk top featherweights.

At 18 brad is one of the youngest pro mma fighters in the uk.

We just returned from The 2009 Brasil summer camp which was amazing,All of the guys made us feel so welcome and were very freindly it was like being in my own academy but in brasil.

Apart from having more then 6 black belts at the camp to train with including the likes of World champions Felipe Costa , Igor Silva, Brock lesnors BJJ Coach And world Champion Camprido, Michelle , Bezihno, and Caio i was amongst my own team from London and Romania.

Training was twice a day and the techniques and concepts were awesome, the food was great and at no point did anyone go hungry including the 120kg Romanian monsters.

There was to many funny things going on to mention and everyone got pranked at some point we even saw felipe perform the secret lemon pie dance check out YouTube to find out more.

A highlight of the time spent in the camp will be posted soon so keep an eye out.

I have attended a few camps over my years practicing BJJ but this was by far the most professional and friendly camp i have attended and i recommend this to everyone.

We will be going back again next year and will open the invataion to all the EK BJJ academy's and students who wish to attend.

Sunday 09Th August saw EKBJJ first Affiliate Training Programme.

The meeting was used as a great platform for everyone to meet and get to know how the network is to move forward over the next year.

This was also the first time the EKBJJ association got to review our new Bjj curriculum.

Reps were in attendance for The 6 hour training session/ meeting.

Big congratulations to my BJJ family members in romania.

9 first places out of 10 for Absoluto BJJ

Absoluto competed last weekend in a BJJ competition in Rm. Valcea, Romania. With competitors from all the BJJ clubs in Romania, except one, and also from different grappling styles, the competition was dominated by Absoluto. On the 18th of July, in the gi competition they won 5 first places (out of 6): 3 in the white belt category and 2 in the blue belt. The romanians also got one second place and one third place. Next day, in the no gi division, they took all the first places, including the under 97 kg category, by a guy weighing only 67 kg!

A huge succes for Absoluto, taking into account that of all white belts only one of them has competed in a previous tournament.

Well done guy's we are proud of you keep up the awesome work.

Royce Gracie was the gracie family's pick as representative back when the UFC started in 1993 when there was no weight classes , no rounds , no gloves, no cross training and even fewer rules.

The early days were are style against a style with kick boxing v karate ,shoot wrestlers v jiu jitsu all competing to prove who style was best.

ROYCE GRACIE shocked the martial arts world and changed the way all martial artist trained and fought by displaying his familys style of jiu jitsu that is now known throughout the world as Gracie Jiu Jitsu.

Royces victories include wins over Ken Shamrock, Kimo Leopoldo , Pat Smith ,Dan Severn , Yoshida & Akebono.
